Native Temptation
June 6, 2009
Foreword by Jo Elaine
What could be said about sin and/or redemption that haven’t been said already? The topic has been analyzed, deconstructed, and reconstructed by philosophers, scholars, clergymen, atheists, etc to no conclusive end. In this postmodern age, there isn’t a single original theory to explain why human beings repeatedly sin and continue to seek redemption in one way or another. Perhaps the most banal, straightforward answer to this question is simply that: it is human to sin. Why? Because it feels so damn good to sin! Because living in sin is a hundred times sexier and more appealing than going through life in a monastery, deprived of sex, drugs and rock’n'roll!!! Because God created us this way – full of love and passion. The poet Kahlil Gibran once wrote, “Should we all confess our sins to another, we would all laugh at one another for our lack of originality.” So it’s not like we’re veering away from what we were born to do, we’re just fulfilling what we were programmed to do. Even the bible managed to formulate our sins into 7 specific categories, so technically (assuming that God really did write the bible himself albeit via human hands) God already know that we were going to commit these seven and only these seven sins…..
